چکیده

In a variety of applications of audio signal processing, for example blind source separation (BSS), harmonic signals need to be treated differently from percussive signals. Thus, recognizing if a signal is harmonic or percussive is a very helpful and frequently used preprocessing step. Different measures have been proposed to capture either the harmonicity or the percussivity of a signal, using knowledge of the spectral shape of the signal or investigating its periodic behavior. In this paper, we propose a new method for distinguishing harmonic and percussive signals and evaluate it in a BSS environment. We compare it to three other state-of-the-art measures. Our experiments show, that our method obtains better results than the traditionally used methods.

Harmonic-Percussive Source Separation Using Harmonicity and Sparsity Constraints

In this paper, we propose a novel approach to harmonicpercussive sound separation (HPSS) using Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) with sparsity and harmonicity constraints. Conventional HPSS methods have focused on temporal continuity of harmonic components and spectral continuity of percussive components. However, it may not be appropriate to use them to separate time-varying harmonic sig...

Extending Harmonic-Percussive Separation of Audio Signals

In recent years, methods to decompose an audio signal into a harmonic and a percussive component have received a lot of interest and are frequently applied as a processing step in a variety of scenarios. One problem is that the computed components are often not of purely harmonic or percussive nature but also contain noise-like sounds that are neither clearly harmonic nor percussive. Furthermor...

Reifenberg Flatness and Oscillation of the Unit Normal Vector

We show (under mild topological assumptions) that small oscillation of the unit normal vector implies Reifenberg flatness. We then apply this observation to the study of chord-arc domains and to a quantitative version of a two-phase free boundary problem for harmonic measure previously studied by Kenig-Toro [KT06].

Phase-based harmonic/percussive separation

In this paper, a method for separation of harmonic and percussive elements in music recordings is presented. The proposed method is based on a simple spectral peak detection step followed by a phase expectation analysis that discriminates between harmonic and percussive components. The proposed method was tested on a database of 10 audio tracks and has shown superior results to the reference st...

Percussive/harmonic sound separation by non-negative matrix factorization with smoothness/sparseness constraints

In this paper, unsupervised learning is used to separate percussive and harmonic sounds frommonaural non-vocal polyphonic signals. Our algorithm is based on a modified non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) procedure that no labeled data is required to distinguish between percussive and harmonic bases because information from percussive and harmonic sounds is integrated into the decomposition ...
